BRISTOL, Florida (SmallTownPapers) -- ALTHA Samuel E. Carter Sr., 84, of Altha passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at his home. He was born on Dec. 30, 1926 in Calhoun County and had lived there all of his life. He worked in construction for over 25 years and worked with the Calhoun County Road Dept. for 11 years. He was a veteran of WWIIm serving in the United States Navy. He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Carter; a brother, Emmett Carter, Jr. and two sisters, Jeanette Sunday and Lucille Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Maggie Carter; a daughter, Sharon Conyers arid her husband, Marty, all of Altha; two nephews, Donnie and Ronnie Taylor; two nieces, Mary Lou Griner and Linda Anderson, all of Defuniak Springs; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 20 at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan Yoder officiating. Private interment followed at the Carter Family Cemetery.

Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown was in charge of the arrangements.
