EXETER, California (SmallTownPapers) -- An Exeter man was gunned down Saturday during an argument in Farmersville.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Department found the man dead from an apparent gunshot wound at a little before 1 p.m. near the 16800 block of Theresa Ave.

The ensuing investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit determined that the victim was involved in an argument with several subjects when one of them pulled out a weapon and shot him.

The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Arturo Rivera Mendoza of Exeter.

Police later arrested 22-year-old Mario Perez of Visalia. Perez was booked on one count each of homicide, conspiracy and accessory to homicide.

The investigation is still in its early stages, no motive has been determined and the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Tulare County Coroner's Office.

The autopsy has been scheduled for July 21.
